Privacy policy

Summary

This site has no accounts, no forms, no analytics and no database. Its own code does not set cookies, does not write to your browser's storage and does not send anything you do on the page to a server. The one third party is Google AdSense, which serves the advertising, does use cookies and browser storage, and has its own data practices, described below.

This policy was written from a check of the site's built code, not from a template. The results of that check are listed in the next section.

What was checked

Before this policy was published, the built site was inspected for the following:

• Network requests made by the site's code: none. The calculator's food list is bundled into the page, and the site's scripts contain no fetch, XMLHttpRequest, WebSocket or beacon calls. Adding, removing and totalling foods happens entirely in your browser.
• Browser storage: the site's code does not use localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB or cookies.
• Server-side code: none. The site is a set of static files. There are no API routes or server functions that could receive data.
• Fonts: served from this site's own domain, not from a font service.
• Third-party scripts: exactly one, the Google AdSense script loaded from pagead2.googlesyndication.com. No other third-party script, stylesheet, font or image is referenced in the site's pages.

The page was also loaded and used in a real browser with every storage write and network request recorded. The site's own code made no requests and wrote nothing. The AdSense script, once loaded, did the following on its own:

• it requested resources from pagead2.googlesyndication.com, googleads.g.doubleclick.net, www.google.com, ep1.adtrafficquality.google and ep2.adtrafficquality.google;
• it wrote and removed a test entry in localStorage (named __storage_test__);
• it set a test cookie (named TESTCOOKIESENABLED) to check whether cookies are enabled;
• a cookie named IDE was set on Google's doubleclick.net domain, which Google uses for advertising.

After the session, no entries remained in this site's localStorage or sessionStorage, and no cookie was set on this site's own domain.

In live use, AdSense may set further cookies and contact further Google domains depending on your location, your consent choices and the ads being served. Those are controlled by Google, not by this site.

Your food list and the page address

When you add foods, the calculator writes your list into the page address, for example ?f=banana:1. This is how bookmarking and sharing work without an account. The list is not saved anywhere else by this site.

Two consequences are worth knowing. Anyone you share the link with can see the list. And when a page address with a list in it is loaded, the full address, including the list, is requested from the web host, just as any web address is. Changes you make after the page has loaded are not sent anywhere.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical request information, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. This site does not add any analytics on top of that. Cloudflare's handling of that information is covered by the Cloudflare privacy policy.

Advertising: Google AdSense

The site shows ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites, to limit how often an ad is shown, and to measure ad performance. Where the law requires it, Google may show a consent message before using cookies for these purposes.

You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can turn off personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com. Blocking third-party scripts in your browser stops the AdSense script from loading; the calculator works without it.

Email

If you write to the contact address, your email and address are received in an ordinary email inbox. They are used only to reply and to act on corrections, and they are not added to any mailing list or shared.

Children

The site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If the site's code changes in a way that affects anything above, for example by adding a new third-party service, this page will be updated before or at the same time as that change, and the date at the top will change.
